Resumes
The Resumes page keeps every version of your resume in one place. You can edit any of them by hand, and the app can build new ones from your profile or rewrite an existing one for a specific job.
The Resumes Page
- Resumes - The panel at the top lists everything you have saved with the date it was last updated. Select a resume to open and edit it, rename it, or delete it.
- + New Resume - Creates an empty resume and asks for a name, for example Software Engineer - Startups.
- Import from File - Loads a resume from a JSON file you exported earlier. A file that cannot be read is reported without changing anything.
- Resume Editor - Opens the editor where the app writes and rewrites resumes. Create universal and job-targeted cover letters and optimize existing resumes.
Export and Save sit at the bottom of an open resume. Save stays unavailable until you have changed something.
Editing a Resume by Hand
A resume is organized into sections that match the way recruiters read one. Each section is its own tab:
- Header - Full name, job title, email, phone, LinkedIn, GitHub, portfolio, professional summary, and work preferences.
- Experience - Each role with company, title, start and end dates, and its achievement bullets. Use + Add Job to add another role.
- Skills - Skill sets with a category name and a list of skills. Type a skill and press Enter to add it, and use + Add Skill Set for another grouping.
- Education - Degree, institution, dates, a current-study option, and notes or achievements.
- Projects - Side work and portfolio pieces, each with a title, short description, dates, and bullets. Use + Add Project to add one.
- Interests - Personal interests, which help give documents a voice.
Entries are sorted automatically: current roles first, then the most recent. Save when you are finished and the page confirms the change.
Add to Profile and Pull from Profile
Add new and optimized bullet points and skills from resume to User Profile or pull existing bullet points and skills from User Profile into resume.
- Pull from Profile - Opens a picker of achievements or skills from your profile. Tick what you want and confirm, and the selected items are appended to the section you are editing.
- Add to Profile - Saves the bullets or skills in the current section back to your profile. When a similar bullet already exists there, you can switch on Replace to overwrite it instead of adding a second version.
A useful pattern: generate a resume for a job, keep the strongest new bullets, and use Add to Profile so the next document starts from a richer profile.
Using the Resume Editor
The editor has three starting points. In each case the button that starts the work reads Optimize.
- Optimize an existing resume - Select a saved resume from the list. The panel shows it as Selected Resume, and Optimize rewrites that document in place. Use Save Changes to keep the result.
- Create New - Choose the Create New row, described as starting fresh with a blank template, and click Optimize to write a new resume from your profile. Before it runs you can optionally pick the achievements and skills to prioritize in a review dialog, or skip straight to generating.
- Create New + Add Target Job - With Create New selected, click + Add Target Job, paste the job description, and the button becomes Optimize for Job. You can also pull the job in with Import from Application instead of pasting it.
Job targeting applies to new documents only, so + Add Target Job is unavailable while a saved resume is selected. A saved resume is improved in place instead. After a run the button becomes Regenerate, or Retry if it failed.
Editing with the Assistant
- Resume Editor Assistant - The chat panel sits beside the document while you work in the editor.
- Pick the section you want changed - A chat request edits the section tab you currently have open. Select Header, Experience, Skills, Education, Projects, or Interests first, then describe the change.
- Ask for changes in plain language - For example, "shorten the summary", "lead the first role with the migration work", or "make the tone more direct". Press Send, or Enter to send and Shift and Enter for a new line.
Job-Targeted Resumes
- Two ways to make one - From the editor with Create New + Add Target Job, or from an application with Generate Resume on its Generated Documents card. The application route already knows the job, so you do not paste anything.
- It asks about gaps - The app compares the posting with your profile and asks up to three clarifying questions, focused on work experience and skills first, then projects and education, so you can supply detail the profile is missing.
- Answers are remembered - What you answer for a given job is kept for that job, so re-running the generation for the same posting does not ask the same questions again. Changing the job or editing the parts of your profile it uses starts a fresh set of questions.
- The result is a new document - Your original resume is never overwritten. The targeted version is saved as a separate resume in My Resumes.
Resume Troubleshooting
- Nothing has been generated yet - The document panel shows a hint until you select a resume or choose Create New, add a job if you want one, and click Optimize.
- The assistant asks you to select a section - Chat requests apply to one section at a time, so open the tab you want changed before sending the instruction.
- It says the model could not be loaded - Open Settings, find Local AI Model size, and download the model again, or wait for the background download to finish.
- You are warned about unsaved work - Leaving the editor while a document has unsaved changes asks you to confirm first, so save before switching documents or pages.
- Some sections failed to optimize - The app keeps the sections it could write and reports the others. Use the chat to fix those sections, or choose Regenerate to run the whole document again.
- There is no undo - Chat and manual edits apply straight away, so use Clear to start the editor over, or Regenerate, if a change went the wrong way.
- Generation is slow - Writing happens on your own computer. A smaller model in Settings is noticeably faster, and a larger one reads more of your profile at once.
