Install & Onboarding

The desktop app is your private workspace. It holds your profile, generates your documents on your own computer, and keeps working whether or not you are online.

Install and Sign In

  • macOS on Apple silicon - That is the build currently offered on the downloads page. Open the downloaded disk image and drag the application into your Applications folder.
  • Sign in on first launch - The first window asks you to sign in with your Abacaxi account. That is what registers this computer and starts your free trial if you have not started one yet.

User Profile Creation

The first launch walks you through initial profile creation. Steps marked optional can be skipped and filled in later from the User Profile page.

  1. Welcome - Start with a blank profile, or choose Import Profile to load a profile file you exported earlier.
  2. Initial Settings - Pick a color theme, choose how large an AI model to run on this computer, and decide whether to switch on automated backups.
  3. Profile & Preferences - Your name, professional title, contact details, a short summary, and the kinds of work and locations you want.
  4. Experience - Each role you have held, with its dates and the achievements you want the app to draw on.
  5. Skills - Your skills, grouped into sets so they can be presented differently for different jobs.
  6. Education - Degrees, institutions, and any notes or achievements.
  7. Projects - Optional. Choose Skip for now to move past it.
  8. Personal Interests - Optional, and useful for giving documents a voice.
  9. Review Profile - Review your profile information before saving.
  10. Review Generated Resume - The app writes a first resume from your profile. When you finish, it is saved as your default resume and ready to open in the resume editor.

Base Model Download

  • It downloads in the background - The default model starts downloading while you create your profile. A banner in the app shows the progress and how much is left.
  • You can keep going - The model downloads while you complete your profile. The final review step waits for the download to finish and then writes your first resume.
  • If a download fails - The incomplete file is removed and the app reports the problem. Check your connection and free disk space, then start the download again from Settings under Local AI Model size.

Larger models produce better writing but need more memory and take longer to download. You can switch size at any time in Settings.

Importing a Profile You Already Have

  • Where to find it - Import Profile sits on the welcome step of user profile creation and on the User Profile page.
  • What it accepts - A profile file exported from Abacaxi, in JSON format, up to 5 MB.
  • It replaces, it does not merge - Importing overwrites the profile currently in the app and jumps you to the review step.
  • If the file is rejected - The app reports that the file could not be parsed, or that the profile structure is not valid, and leaves your existing profile untouched.
