Applications

The Applications page is the hub for every job you are pursuing. Each application holds the job posting, its own status, and the documents you generate for it.

Creating an Application

Applications can be created manually or with the Abacaxi browser extension.

  • Type it in - Click New Application, fill in the job details, and choose Save Application. The application opens as soon as it is saved, with the status set to Interested.
  • Capture it from the job posting - With the browser extension installed, open a job posting and choose Create Application. Check the details the extension found, then choose Save to Applications and the application appears in the desktop app straight away.

The form records job title, company, city, application URL, compensation, work location, work type, the full job description, minimum qualifications, responsibilities, preferred qualifications, and benefits. Job title, company, job description, and minimum qualifications are required.

Editing an Application

  • Open it from the list - Choose Edit on the application to make its details editable, and Save Changes to keep them. Cancel restores the previous values.
  • Corrections carry through - Changes made to an application are reflected in the next documents you generate.
  • The original posting stays one click away - A View job posting link opens the URL you saved.

Statuses

Each application carries one status so you can see where everything stands:

  • Interested - Saved as a job worth applying to. New applications start here.
  • Applied - Your application has been submitted.
  • Interviewing - You are in the interview process.
  • Complete - The process has finished.

Change the status from the application page. Archived is not a status you select: applications leave the active list when you archive them.

Archiving and Auto-Archival

  • Archiving by hand - Choose Archive to move an application out of the active list. Nothing is deleted, and Show Archived on the Applications page opens the Archived view where you can unarchive it again.
  • Auto-Archival - In Settings, switch on Enable Auto-Archival to have stale applications tidied up for you. Switching it on sets a 30-day period, which you can change.
  • Archival Period (Days) - Choose how long an application can sit untouched, from 1 to 365 days. Anything with no update for longer than that period is archived automatically.
  • Archived stays archived - Applications you archived yourself are never picked up by auto-archival. It only ever archives the application itself, so the resume and cover letter attached to it are left alone.
  • Deleting permanently - Delete removes the application and its generated documents for good, after a confirmation. Archive instead if you may want it back.

The list shows the most recent applications first and is paged by 10, 25, or 50 at a time.

Resume and Cover Letter for an Application

  1. Open the application - Scroll to the Generated Documents card.
  2. Generate what you need - Choose Generate Resume or Generate Cover Letter, then click Optimize For Job in the editor page to start generating your document.
  3. Answer the questions - The editor asks about any gaps between the posting and your profile. Answering them makes the document noticeably more specific to the role.
  4. Review and Edit - Treat the generated document as a draft. Review it and make any desired changes before saving.
  5. Save it - Saving returns you to the application, with the new document linked to it.
  6. Come back any time - Once a document exists, the buttons read View Resume and View Cover Letter and reopen the saved version.

Exporting Application Documents

  • Export Application Materials - Click Export on the Generated Documents card. It stays unavailable until at least one document has been generated.
  • Pick the document - Choose the resume or the cover letter. A document that has not been generated yet is listed as unavailable.
  • Choose a format - PDF Document (.pdf) is ready to send. Word Document (.docx) opens in a word processor if you want to make final edits yourself.
  • Adjust the layout - Layout Style offers a modern sans-serif, a classic serif, or a space-saving compact layout. Font Size runs from 10pt to 12pt and Margins from narrow to wide, so you can keep a long document on one page.
  • Choose where to save - The app opens your computer's save dialog with a suggested name based on the company, role, and date, so you pick the folder yourself.
